Manifesting the Mandala
Phase I

Community Building
On October 1, 2005 we celebrated the completion of the Community Building and Phase I of our Capital Campaign! Having raised a total of $1,103,000 for this project, we view the Community Building as a striking testament to the commitment of so many to Tara Mandala’s mission. We are deeply thankful to everyone who made this project possible. Your generous contributions will be of benefit for generations to come and have created a building that is truly a work of art.

The expertise and artistry of so many came together to create a most beautiful structure made of local adobe bricks and beams sustainably harvested by draft horses from the land, thinning the Ponderosa pine forests and reducing forest fire risks. Tibetan master craftsmen Lama Gyurme Rabgye and his brother Palden respectively hand-painted and hand-carved the outside posts and the window and door lintels with ornate and colorful traditional Tibetan designs using mineral pigments. A team of clay and limestone plasterers, including Roma Interbitzen from Switzerland and the local Naturally Plaster group, spent many hours plastering the outer and inner walls with materials and colors gathered from the land. We hope you’ll have a chance to see the building for yourself this summer.

The Community building now houses a spacious and gorgeous commercial-sized kitchen and bathroom facilities, with granite donated by Mike Schweitz of Durango Marble and Granite and Bill and Fran Reynolds of Captain Marble in Santa Fe. The building also houses two dining halls with hand-painted Tibetan trim, our offices, and the large bookstore.

We celebrated the opening of the building with a day-long benefit that included live and silent auctions, a gourmet dinner, and a performance concert by Krishna Das and dancer Zuleikha. Our offices moved into the building in early December and staff members are now able to walk or snowshoe to work.

The rapidity with which the funds to build the vision have manifested has been incredible. With $2,209,700 left to raise for Phase II, we continue to reach out to all those inspired to manifest a project of creating ever-more inviting spaces for deep retreat and practice. Our Fundraising Council has plans for further outreach efforts, and Tsultrim will continue sharing her vision of Tara Mandala in teachings on and off the land.

Thank you to everyone who is helping to Manifest the Mandala!
