Newly
Completed Karuna Cabin

Karuna
Cabin with views to the south
|
Retreat
cabins are isolated and perfect for solitary use. They feature
vast views and are remotely located for ultimate privacy. We
currently have two retreat cabins: Karuna Cabin and Ratna Cabin.
We also have a small trailer, Mitakpa.
Our
newest retreat cabin is named Karuna, which means active compassion.
It is 20'x14', has French doors viewing Ekajati Peak, a kitchen
area, shrine, shelves, wood stove for heat, and a gas stove
for cooking. The interior is unstained
wood with large windows that provide incredible sky panoramas
ideal for Dzogchen practice. There is a hardwood deck all the
way around the cabin, which provides space to do yoga in the
morning sun. Contact info@taramandala.org
for reservations.
We
cleared and made rough roads for 6 more cabins on that hillside,
named Samten Phuntsog Ling (Meditation Place Where All Necessities
Are Present) by Adzom Rinpoche last year. It was wonderful to
find these sites, each one is magical and 'a place' in its own
right. We hope to keep building cabins every year.

Retreat,
or returning back to a place or origin, is an age-old practice
in many cultures. It signals a return to simplicity. For
many Buddhist practitioners it is a necessary and very desirable
opportunity to experience a step into a deeper level of
contemplation and practice. Our retreat cabins provide a
rare opportunity to be completely secluded and alone. Here,
you are free to experience your innermost being.

All
our cabins are well suited for year-round practice, as they
are completely insulated and have a small wood-burning stove
for which we provide wood. We also have yurts and a trailer
for retreat seasonally due to lack of insulation (see below).
There is limited or no electricity and no running water, but we'll provide
drinking water. There is a single bed, small kitchen, pots,
pans, flatware, glasses, dishes, a gas burner for cooking,
and a wood stove for heat. Bathing water is collected from
the roof in a large insulated water tank and a pump and
faucet are located on the deck. There is adequate space
for storage on shelves and under the bed. Some of our cabins
have an solar electricity and all have a solar-heated shower bag.
No smoking, drugs or intoxicants are allowed at the cabin.
If
you are interested in doing retreat, please download and read carefully our personal cabin handbook. You can then contact our
office to check
availability. You will be asked to write a letter of intent,
introducing yourself, your practice and your history of
doing retreat. We ask that you fill out a couple of forms,
send us 50% of your retreat fee as a deposit and pay the
balance 10 days prior to your retreat begin date.

We
will set up a time for your arrival so that the Tara Mandala
staff can greet you, and a support person will escort you
to the retreat cabin and help you get oriented.
Check in time is at 2 p.m. and check out time is at noon.
Cabins tend to fill up fast so book early!
